The Bridge

Today’s unfamiliar situations -- climate change, evolving social norms, AI, and the desire to connect diverse groups -- are calls for a new way of thinking.  The Bridge offers a framework for linear and circular thinking. It shows how linear command and control methods have their place, such as when building a safety net. When we seek things like relationship development and repair, and resilience in the face of the unknown, we need circular thinking. Hudson leads us into a fascinating exploration of how to participate in both these ways of knowing.

Backed up by scientific research, and drawing on her experience as an exploration geologist, First Nation consultant, and federal land claims negotiator, Hudson applies her skills as an archetypal story analyst to offer a book that is intriguing and practical. The Bridge enables leaders, people facing conflict, and organizations wanting change, to apply linear and circular thinking, and cross the distance between them.

  • "Reading this thoughtful and courageous book feels like opening a gift from Kim Hudson.  It is rich with insight, science, stories and personal reflection, making it highly engaging, readable and provocative.  Kim's personal stories allow us to reach into our own.  It is the right book at the right time: opening our imagination to new ways forward. I can’t stop thinking about the possibility in the power of The Bridge"

  • "Author and geologist Kim Hudson provides a well-researched and compassionate approach to bridging the twin worlds of linear and circular thinking. With warmth and wit, she draws on memorable stories that illuminate humanity’s crossed wires and deep bonds along the path to mutual understanding. The Bridge is an important book for everyone committed to communications in support of sustainability, Reconciliation, and inclusion. It should be required reading for board directors, activists, educators, bureaucrats, and allies as we work together for common cause in complex times"
